Reflection Post

When I first thought of this idea, it was originally aimed toward people with low incomes like students, but as the project evolved the target market changed into broadway lovers. I personally am both a broadway lover and a student with no income so I think it would be great if there was a website that could provide short clips of the newest shows to help me decide which show I would enjoy the most. I know you could always google the different shows and watch the videos that are given, but this website would keep everything organized in one place.
This project at times was a bit challenging because I had to relate my idea to the lectures from class. There were a few weeks that I had a lot of trouble incorporating the lectures into my entrepreneurship idea, but luckily I was able to be creative and figure something out. There were plenty of weeks that were very easy to relate to my idea, and I believe those weeks enhanced my idea and transformed my target market from students to broadway lovers.
Although I do like my idea, if introduced to the real world it might cause problems with the theater district. Broadway may not approve of a website that shows long clips of different shows in fear of people not wanting to buy tickets to actually see the show. This website also would probably need a lot of licensees and permission to be able to post clips from shows on the site, which in reality might be a good reason to not create this website.
Now that I am aware of the problems I could encounter with this idea, there are a few things I would probably change. One thing that I would definitely change is making sure that the video clips that are on the website are relatively short. Ten minutes at most should be enough for people to become interested in the show and leave them wanting more. I also wouldn't title the website "Broadway Teasers for the 'No' Income Person". That title makes it sound like it is only for people that don't want to spend money, when in reality this idea is for all broadway lovers across the world. If I could start this project over I would change those two things.
After this project I have become very familiar with entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is all about starting you own business, and right now I do not see this website turning into a business. I could see this website being successful, but having a career off of this website just does not seem realistic to me anymore. It doesn't seem realistic to me because of the few faults that I found having to do with the theater district not approving of the site.
Overall, this project was a great learning experience. I was able to think of a unique idea from something I love, and incorporate the information I learned from class into the idea. Although in the end this idea does not seem successful, I don't regret doing my blog on this idea.

Week 9 - Databases

Databases are a great way to manage vast amounts of information. They perform quick queries and are able to make quick decisions about information. They are also able to create spreadsheets and connect relational information together.
Relational information that they could connect together could include a persons name and their contact information. The database would be able to recognize that one persons name can only match to certain addresses, phone numbers zip codes, etc. This could be a great tool for the broadway teasers website to use.
The broadway teasers website could create a way for returning visitors to create an account on the website. Their account could allow them to receive news updates about different shows that are on broadway, coming to broadway or leaving broadway. In order to keep track of its members this website could have a database that creates spreadsheets with relational information. This would be very helpful in keeping the site running organized and smoothly.

Week 8 - Networks

If the broadway teasers website were to actually be created, it would need to be given a domain name. There are different types of domain names and they vary with the different types of websites. The types of domain names include restricted (.edu or .gov) and unrestricted (.com , .net or .org).
For the broadway teasers website it would be best to give it an unrestricted domain name. It is best to give it an unrestricted domain name because it would be a website that anyone can visit and it is not linked to a school or government type agency like a restricted domain name. An example of a domain name that this website could potentially have, could be, broadwayteasers.com.
When choosing a domain name you must be very careful that it does not sound similar to a trademark or service name. If it sounds similar to a trademark or service name it could be possible that you can't have that domain name. Broadwayteasers.com is very straight and to the point, therefore it would not be mixed up with any trademarks or service names.

Week 7 - Operating Systems

In order to visit a website one must have an operating system on one's computer. Examples of operating systems include Microsoft, Unix, Linux and Apple. Operating systems manage hardware and software resources and provides a way for software applications to work with the hardware without having to know details.
Without an operating system it would pretty much be impossible to visit the broadway teaser's website. Because the operating systems enable the use of software on a computer, this can be very beneficial to this website. Open source software is and example of a type of software, and it is a source code published and made available to the public who can copy, modify and redistribute without paying royalties or fees. An example of open source software is a droid.
A droid is a mobile device, and because so many people spend most of their time on their mobile devices it would be a good idea for the broadway teasers website to make it possible for their website to be accessible on droids, or other mobile devices. If people could view the clips of the shows on their phones it could definitely benefit the website by getting more visitors. A lot of people prefer to use their phone as a computer these days rather then using their actual computers.

Week 6 - Computer Forensics

It is very important to always make sure what you use on the computer is safe. The internet is pretty much open for anyone to use, and when you have a website you must make sure all of the information is safely secured. If the information that is on a website is not secure there is a chance that one's identity could be stolen.
On the broadway teasers website it is very important that those that visit the site feel safe. In order to feel safe the website must not ask for any personal information such as social security numbers. There would be no reason for this site to ask for social security numbers, so if it did there would be a chance that people would feel unsafe on this website and choose to not visit it.
Because there is an option to buy tickets after viewing a clip from a show, the tickets must be bought from a secure website such as ticketmaster or telecharge. These websites are secure because they have PCI compliance which protects its customers credit card information. If the website is secure then its customers will feel safe on it, which will then cause people to continue viewing the website.

Week 5 - Bits and Bytes

Everything that is on the computer needs to have plenty of storage place. The amount of storage space that one has can effect a lot that you can do on a computer. For example if google did not have enough storage space to process all of its information people would not be able to find information on its website.
In order to store clips of broadway shows, a broadway teasers website needs to have plenty of storage space. Storage comes in the form of bytes and there are many different types of bytes. Examples of the different bytes include, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, terabyte, petabyte, and exabyte. Kilobytes are the smallest and exabytes are the largest from this list.
A broadway teasers website would need to have a large number of bytes because there are many shows on broadway. The video clips would take up quite a lot of space so to avoid the website from getting too full it should start off with a large amount of storage space. The more storage space there is the more broadway shows people can view prior to buying tickets.

Week 4 - Input and Output

Do you ever wonder when the cast of a broadway show was changing, or when the original lead will no longer be in the show anymore? If there was a way to track the cast for the shows you want to see, you would never have to wonder if the original cast has been replaced when you want to see the show. If there were an RFID on the broadway show you would never have to sit and wonder what actors and actresses will be performing on a given date.
A RFID is a radio frequency identification, where a sticker is placed on an object and you can then look on a computer to track different aspects of the object. The sticker can also be placed on people as well, but for a broadway show purpose the sticker could be placed on a wall in the theater. The broadway show teaser website could have a tab where you can click and track the actors or actresses for a particular show, where you can see who is performing when.
The RFID sticker would be very useful for this website because the clips from the shows would only have the original cast performing. Some people only want to see shows with the original cast, or they want to find out what happens next with the same actors and actresses they just viewed. By just the click of a button one could find out who is performing when, which would then help one to decide what date to see a show. This could be very useful to this broadway teaser website.

Week 3 - Digital Images

In order to have a successful webpage it must be fun and exciting visually. A webpage that is dark and dreary probably will not that many views because people won't enjoy looking at it. Colorful fonts and backgrounds can put people in great moods and make them happy while viewing the page.
If a broadway teaser website were to be made it would need to be very fun and colorful. Broadway is fun and exciting and visitors to the website need to experience those feelings from the second they enter the website. There are 16.7 million color combinations in the world, so there is no reason to have a boring black and white webpage.
All of the colors on a computer have different codes. If someone were to create this website they would have to learn about hexadecimal colors. All that really means is every color has a certain formula. With a certain formula plugged into the computer beautiful colors can take the place of a plain white or black screen. When something is fun to look at, it is more likely that someone will want to visit the webpage more often. Colors would definitely help a broadway teasers website.

Week 2 - The WWW/ E Commerce

You just watched 20 to 30 minutes of one of the new shows on broadway. You have officially decided which show you are going to spend your saved up money on and you are very eager to buy the tickets as soon as possible. Wouldn't it be great if there was an option to buy the tickets right on the broadway teaser website? During this time period more and more people are using the web to purchase items and if there was an option to buy tickets right after you viewed the teaser more people would likely spend their money.

Why would they be more likely to buy the tickets if they could on the website? Well the show is fresh in their minds and all they would have to do is click on a button on the open screen in front of them. This is much easier then trying to remember to visit another website later on in the day or the week to buy tickets.

Would this even be possible? Would this broadway teaser website even have the rights to sell tickets? Well the button that they click could lead them right to telecharge or ticketmaster to purchase the tickets for that particular show they just "teased". Websites like telecharge and ticketmaster are two very known websites where web payments are constantly made. They are already established as a safe website to put your credit card into, probably because they have PCI DSS (payment card industry date security standard). PCI DSS protects the consumer by preventing credit card fraud. Because ticketmaster and telecharge are already established as top ticket buying websites, people will probably also be more likely to trust purchasing their tickets there.

I don't think you could go wrong with this idea. Watch 20 to 30 minutes of a broadway show, then comes a button that asks you if you would like to purchase tickets. You are then led straight to a safe web payment site. Easy and efficient.

Broadway Shows on the Internet?

There are many people across the world that enjoy broadway shows but just don't have enough money to take the trip into Manhattan to see a show. Many people hear about all of the great new musicals each year, but they are nervous to spend the money on a show in fear of being let down. I for one always listen to the music before seeing a show just to make sure I would enjoy it. Sometimes listening to the music just does not work. Although I usually love every show I have seen, there have been a few where I wasted my money and wish I could get it back.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to avoid spending hundreds of dollars to be let down? If there were a website that posted the first twenty to thirty minutes of the current shows playing on broadway this problem would be solved. Because money doesn't just endlessly grow on trees, and many people try to be careful with what they spend it on this website would be great for the broadway fans. If one were to hear about a new show that people say were great they could log onto this website and see for themselves. This would be a great way for people to carefully decide which shows to spend their saved up money on.

Not only would this website be great for those with a low to no income (students), it would also benefit the broadway industry. Because the website would only show the first twenty to thirty minutes of the musical or play it would cause people to want to find out what happens next. People would then spend their money on the show to find out the rest of the story. This website would be great all around for everyone!
